LANSING – The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) has awarded $10 million in state grants to local and intermediate school districts to help support the costs of district consolidations or a consolidation of services among school districts.


“To help develop more efficient operations of school districts, either entire district consolidations or a consolidation of their services is being recognized as a very effective strategy,” said State Superintendent Mike Flanagan.

Art Demonstrations - Every half-hour, get a chance to see KIA faculty showcase different exciting techniques that we teach and use at the KIA. Methods to be demonstrated include: wheel throwing, printmaking, welding, watercolor painting, 3-D printing, jewelry making, fi...ber arts and photography.

Silent Auction - Throughout the course of the evening there will be an ongoing silent auction. Here is your chance to bid on over 20 pieces of original artwork!

KALAMAZOO--A Western Michigan University instructor and noted poet and author will launch the Spring 2013 Gwen Frostic Reading Series on Thursday, Jan. 31.

A reading by Jay Baron Nicorvo follows the recent release of his debut poetry collection, "Deadbeat," which was just published by Four Way Books. Nicorvo will read from it and his other works at 8 p.m. in Room 208-209 of the Bernhard Center.

Nicorvo's poetry, fiction, nonfiction and criticism have appeared in The Literary Review, Guernica, The Iowa Review and The Believer. He's served on editorial staffs at Ploughshares and PEN America, the literary magazine of the PEN American Center.

Kalamazoo- On February 1, 2013, Prairie Ridge elementary school of Kalamazoo will be offering free cultural education after school classes to its students’ for the remainder of the year. At this time, the classes will be offered for Prairie Ridge students through grades of 1st-5th. Text books, paper and pencils will be provided.
