Downtown Kalamazoo gets bike friendlier
News, Transportation

March 21, 2012, Kalamazoo, MI: Downtown Kalamazoo Inc. announces the availability of bike storage units as a service to bicyclists.

"The purpose of the bike lockers is to encourage a more sustainable and 'green' form of transportation by attracting bicyclists who live outside of the Downtown Development Authority boundary, and might otherwise commute downtown via bike as opposed to vehicle,"  said Brian Persky, Coordinator of Planning and Development for Downtown Kalamazoo Incorporated (DKI).

Bike lockers are currently available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The assigned locker is to be used only for the purpose of storing a bicycle, bicycle accessories and/or equipment.

Rental rates* for these units are as follows:

  • Monthly/$10
  • Seasonal (April 1 - October 31)/$50
  • Yearly/$100

*All rentals include a $50 refundable key deposit.

Currently, there are four lockers, located at: (See BIKE LOCKER MAP)

  • Transportation Center (Kalamazoo Avenue)
  • Water Street Lot #9 (Water Street)
  • Arcadia Ramp (Eleanor Street)
  • Epic Ramp (corner of John and Lovell Streets)
