Three dead in two Calhoun County accidents | News
CALHOUN COUNTY, Mich. -- Three men died Thursday in separate accidents on rural Calhoun County roads.
At 2:02 p.m. Calhoun County Sheriff Department deputies were called to a single-vehicle accident on 12 Mile Road about a half-mile south of A Drive North in Marshall Township.
Deputies said a man driving a pick-up southbound on 12 Mile Road died when the truck left the east side of the road and hit a tree.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene by the Calhoun County Medical Examiner. His name was not immediately released until deputies could notify family members.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Marshall Township Fire Department.
At 4:02 a.m. Michigan State Police reported a single vehicle accident in which two people died.
Troopers said a person delivering newspapers discovered the wrecked pickup truck and two men inside who were unresponsive. The accident was on Oak Grove Road south of J Drive South in Newton Township.
Troopers and firefighters from Newton Township Fire Department said the two men were trapped inside the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver has been identified as Carl Tackett, 23 of Burlington, and the passenger as Olaf Samuel Boes, 26 of Marshall. The men were half-brothers.
The investigation shows that the truck was southbound when Tackett lost control on an icy roadway and hit a tree. Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash.
Troopers said they don't know the exact time of the crash but is believed to have occurred earlier Thursday morning.
