3 teens arrested after Kalamazoo crime spree

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WZZM) -- Three Kalamazoo area teenagers are facing charges in connection to an all night crime spree.

Police say they have linked the teens to at least at least 45 different cases. Investigators believe it started around midnight when the three stole three CO2 powered semi-automatic BB pistols from a store on Gull Road.

The teens allegedly then drove around the area shooting at vehicles, homes and people, pausing to steal items from cars. Police say there were no significant injuries but property damage is in the thousands of dollars.

The teens were arrested after receiving a call of a young man walking along Kings Highway with a pistol. Officers set up a perimeter around where they were spotted. The group began running from officers and were seen throwing the three guns, one of which went into the Kalamazoo River.

All five teens in the group were arrested, and two BB pistols were recovered as was stolen property.

Police say the group’s instigator, is a 13-year-old Kalamazoo resident who was just released from a juvenile home for similar crimes.  The second suspect is a 15-year-old Kalamazoo resident and the third is a 17-year-old Three Rivers resident.

The three were driving around in the 13-year-old's family vehicle.
