KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WZZM) -- Officials are urging Western Michigan University students to be mindful of their surroundings after two overnight robberies occurred on campus.

The first incident happened before midnight Saturday near the flagpoles at the center of campus, according to a university news release. The male student victim reported a small group of men assaulted him, knocked him to the ground and robbed him of a small amount of cash.

He went to his dorm to seek medical assistance.

The second robbery occurred just before 1 a.m. at the same location. A lone male student reported a group of five males accosted him, the release stated. One of the suspects reportedly told the victim that the group had a weapon.

They stole a piece of clothing from the student. He was not injured.

Police are warning the campus community not to walk alone and to be alert to any suspicious activity. Anyone with information is asked to contact the university's Department of Public Safety at 269-387-5555.
