Portage Creek and Willard Street Non-motorized Trailways Open House

From: http://www.kalamazoocity.org

Kalamazoo, MI – In the City’s non-motorized master plan two sections of trailway have been identified for their preferred routes. The first is a 4.6 mile trailway along the Portage Creek Corridor from Kilgore Road northerly to the Kalamazoo Valley River Trail in Sutherland. The second is a trailway along the existing Willard Street Right of Way between Harrison Street and North Westnedge Avenue. The trail way will start at Harrison Street just north of the Amtrak railroad tracks and continues westerly to Westnedge Avenue connecting two existing trails on each side. The City is entering into the design phase of both projects and would like to invite you to an open house.

Infrared Photography by Christopher Light at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts

December 3, 2011 - March 18, 2012

In this exhibition of his recent work, photographer Christopher Light explores the urban and natural world through infrared digital photographs. The human eye can see only a very small portion of the entire light spectrum. The portion of the spectrum with frequencies just below the lowest visible red light (longer wave lengths) is referred to as "infrared." Although invisible to the eye, digital cameras are sensitive to infrared light. Photographs taken with infrared light seem at once precise (due to the absence of atmospheric haze) and dreamlike (skies appear dark and natural foliage-tree leaves and grass-appear very light as they reflect the infrared light).
