Enthusiasts of postcards and antique bottles or glass are invited to the Kalamazoo County Expo Center for two interesting shows this Saturday.

The Southwest Michigan Post Card Club Show & Sale takes place at Expo North 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. There will be a number of  tables with more than a million postcards from 1890 to present.

The Antique Bottle & Glass Show takes place 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. in Room A, showcasing all types of glass from dairy bottles to medicine and flasks, with the chance for free appraisals.

The Kalamazoo County Expo Center is located at 2900 Lake Street in Kalamazoo.

Dog Walk Promises Howlin’ Good Time Returns

More than 3,000 dog lovers and precious pooches will gather for the 31st annual Dog Walk & K-9 Festival scheduled for Saturday, May 2, at Vicksburg’s Prairie View Park.

The popular event, sponsored by the Kalamazoo Humane Society, features dock jumping, disc competitions, an obstacle course and much more, along with children’s activities, pet adoptions and pet microchipping. It is KHS’s biggest fundraiser of the year, aiming to raise $75,000 in vital support for its programs.

"Whether you’re a dog owner, dog lover or just looking for a fun family event, the Dog Walk is the place to be," said Aaron Winters, executive director of KHS.

Food, music and pet-product vendors will be on hand as well, Winters added.

My Town Kalamazoo: Attractions offer free admission deal during May

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Enjoy some of Kalamazoo’s top attractions for free next month, as the Southwest Michigan Cultural Exchange returns. 

The program is open to members of The Air Zoo, Binder Park Zoo, Gilmore Car Museum, Kalamazoo Nature Center or Kalamazoo Institute of Arts.  Throughout the month of May, these five organizations will team up to welcome each others’ members. Each attraction will also be offering additional activities, however there may be additional costs for special activities and programs.

Southwest Michigan Cultural Exchange was created last year as a way to celebrate the region’s cultural richness while introducing community members to new experiences.

My Town Kalamazoo: Contents of historic building up for bid

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Now is your chance to own a piece of Kalamazoo history.

From 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 26, the contents of the former PNC Bank building will be up for bid online.  The building is more than a century old.  Peregrine Realty purchased the facility last fall with plans to convert it into a mixed use, commercial and retail property.  A variety of items from inside the building will be on auction on biddergy.com Thursday, including solid wood furniture, décor, file cabinets, safes and chandeliers.

Interested bidders can check out the items for sale during a pre-auction inspection Wednesday, March 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The building is located at 108 E. Michigan Ave.

My Town Kalamazoo: Chefs transform pantry goods into feasts in culinary competition

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Local chefs will transform pantry foods into three-course feasts when a favorite competition returns to Kalamazoo next week.

Chefs Against Hunger will take place at Cityscape Events Center Tuesday, March 24.  Chefs must use ingredients from Ministry with Community’s pantry.  They’ll be assisted by a local celebrity sous-chef.

Chefs Against Hunger runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tickets are $40 each and can be purchased online or at the door.  The event will also feature a silent auction, raffle and a big announcement from Ministry with Community.

My Town Kalamazoo: Home Expo & Garden Show returns this weekend

KALAMAZOO, Mich.-- Homeowners and greenthumbs who are ready for a springtime spruce-up should head to the Kalamazoo Expo Center this weekend.

The Kalamazoo Home Expo & Garden Show runs from March 12 through March 15.  The family-friendly event will feature a variety of exhibits, from products to new building trends. The event will provide useful and creative ideas for homeowners looking to build or remodel their place.
