O'Brien hosting transportation town hall in Kalamazoo

State Rep. Margaret O'Brien is sponsoring a town hall meeting focused on transportation issues and Michigan's roads.

The meeting will include a debate on current legislative proposals aimed to help improve roads through alternative funding options.

The town hall will take place on Monday, Feb. 27 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Greater Kalamazoo Association of REALTORS® located at 5830 Venture Park Drive.

"Michigan residents regularly cite good roads as being a state priority," said O'Brien, R-Portage." At the same time, our residents have limited resources so we need to find middle ground."

State Rep. Rick Olson, sponsor of House Bills 5298 and 5299, will discuss why he believes Michigan needs his suggested changes while Jack McHugh of the Mackinac Center will speak about opposition to current proposals.  Joanna Johnson, Director of the Kalamazoo County Road Commission, will explain how roads are funded and share the current state of local roads.

The committee process will be explained by House Transportation Chairman Paul Opsommer who also will moderate the event.

Attendees will be able to ask questions following the presentations.
