Suspects arrested after breaking into numerous vehicles

On 10-25-12 at 03:30 AM, a Portage Public Safety Officer observed a suspicious vehicle in the Moorsbridge neighborhood.  Two suspects were dropped off in the neighborhood by the vehicle.  The vehicle was later stopped and numerous stolen items were located inside that included GPS units, a lap top computer, golf clubs, and numerous other items.

A Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Dept. K9 was called to track the suspects, but was unable to locate them.  At approximately 5:30 AM, the two suspects were seen entering the Shaver Rd. Meijer and were arrested. The three suspects said that they drove from the Mishawaka, Indiana area and admitted to breaking into numerous vehicles.  The three were arrested, lodged at the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Dept. jail, and the investigation continues.

On October 24, 2012, officers from the Community Outreach Problem Solving Division, (C.O.P.S.), in response to citizen complaints of drug dealing, executed two search warrants in the city of Kalamazoo. One raid was conducted in the 1000 block of S. Park Street and the other in the 4400 block of Duke Street.

While searching the residence in the 1000 block of S. Park, Officers located a marijuana grow operation, packaging equipment, scales, processed marijuana, and two handguns. The two residents were 21 and 23 years of age.  One of the suspects was found to be a convicted felon. Criminal charges consisting of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Felony Firearm, Manufacturing Marijuana, and Possession With Intent to Deliver Marijuana will be sought with the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office.

On 10-21-12 at 3:23AM, Public Safety Officers were sent to the 700 block of W. Cedar St. on a report of an assault in progress.  Officers arrived and found a 24 year old Kalamazoo man with extensive head trauma.  The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
 
A suspect was identified by officers, he was found to be a 34 year old Kalamazoo resident.  This suspect was arrested and is currently being held in the Kalamazoo County Jail on an Open Murder charge.   He is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday, October 23rd. 2012.

Shots Fired into Home

On Thursday, September 27th, 2012 at approximately 12:32 a.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 1600 block of N. Rose St.   Responding officers determined that a lone male suspect approached the rear of a residence and fired six shots from a handgun into the home. After the shots were fired, the suspect fled the scene on foot. A Kalamazoo Public Safety K9 was called in to the track the suspect. The track led to the driveway of a near by residence and it is believed that the suspect may have left the area in an unknown vehicle. The intended victim of the assault was not injured. Based on the initial investigation, the incident appears to be part of an ongoing domestic situation.

At this time, no suspect(s) has been arrested. Kalamazoo Public Safety continues to investigate the incident.  No further information is available at this time.

Suspects Arrested After Robbery

On Thursday, September 27th, 2012 at approximately 1:58 a.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to a reported robbery in the 1600 block of E. Main Street.   The victim told officers that a male subject with a black bandana over his face approached him and placed an object to the back of his head that resembled a gun. The suspect then demanded that victim turn over his property. The victim complied and turned over money and jewelry. The suspect fled the scene in a white late model Cadillac. The victim of the robbery was not injured.

Minutes after the report of the robbery, Kalamazoo Public Safety officers located a possible suspect vehicle in the 1400 block of Humphrey Street occupied by three male subjects. The vehicle was stopped without incident the occupants were identified as the suspects in the robbery.

Felonious Assault Suspect Arrested

Public Safety Officers were sent to the intersection of Ada and Burrell St. on Monday, September 24that 2:00pm on a report of a man bleeding from the head.  Officers discovered a 48 year old Kalamazoo resident lying in the street, unresponsive.  The victim was taken to Bronson Hospital where he is currently listed in critical but stable condition.

Witness information concluded that the suspect struck the victim on the head with a blunt object and fled the scene prior to officers arrival.  A suspect was developed through interviews and he was located by detectives.  A 17 year old Kalamazoo man has been arrested in this assault and is currently being lodged in the Kalamazoo County Jail.  He is being charged with Assault with Intent to Murder and is expected to be arraigned on September 27th, 2012.

On September 20, 2012, officers from the Community Outreach Problem Solving Division, (C.O.P.S.), acting on several tips from citizens regarding street level drug dealing, conducted a drug investigation in the 1100 block of Princeton. During this investigation officers observed a subject selling heroin. This subject was taken into custody and charged with delivery of Heroin. The suspect, a 27 year old Kalamazoo man is lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail and is awaiting arraignment.
