Two Parolees Arrested in Kalamazoo Heroin Bust

Kalamazoo, MI: On 2-13-2013 at approximately 0730 hours, KVET Officers from the Community Outreach and Problem Solving Division, (C.O.P.S.), and officers from the Kalamazoo Metro Swat Team, executed a search warrant in the 3100 block of Crystal Lane in Oshtemo Township. The search warrant stemmed from tips from concerned citizens’ that drug trafficking had been occurring there.

Officers executed the search warrant and located a large amount of heroin having a street value of over $3000, several scales, packaging equipment, and marijuana. The suspect, a 28 year old Kalamazoo man, is on parole with the Kalamazoo County Parole Office and had an outstanding warrant for violating his parole. He was arrested on the charges of Possession With Intent To Deliver Heroin, Maintaining a Drug House, and on the parole warrant.

Kalamazoo Man Charged in Deadly ATV Crash

A Kalamazoo man has been ordered to stand trial for the crash that killed someone riding with him on an all terrain vehicle. The accident happened in Illinois last year. Associated Press reports that 30-year-old Andrew Koster of Kalamazoo is charged with reckless homicide, aggravated driving under the influence, and aggravated reckless driving. Police say Koster was driving the ATV when it crashed September 14, 2012 near Clayton, Illinois. He and the victim, 25-year-old Sara Birsic, were on property owned by a hunting outfitter. Koster is free on bond. He faces up to five years in prison.

WMU Student Killed When Hit By Car

A woman hit by a car shortly after midnight on Sunday in Kalamazoo has been identified as a Western Michigan University student from St. Clair Shores, MI. She was 22-year-old Breeana Dixit. According to Kalamazoo Public Safety, the accident that happened at W. Michigan Avenue and Emajean St. is still under investiation. Police say at this point, it does not appear that alcohol or speed were a factor. New Online Reporting System

Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) is proud to announce the implementation of a new Online Reporting System called “Coplogic”.  Coplogic will allow citizens to make a report 24 hours a day, 365 days a year on non-emergency type incidents.
