SEARCH LEADS TO DISCOVERY OF LARGE ANHYDROUS AMMONIA METH LAB, FINSISHED METH, AND FIREARMS

Kalamazoo, MI: On January 18th, 2013, at approximately 1630 hrs, KVET investigators from the Community Outreach Problem Solving Division, (C.O.P.S.) went to the 7000 block of Douglas Avenue in Cooper Township to conduct follow-up regarding a methamphetamine investigation. The investigation began the previous day in the 1000 block of Lay Blvd. in the City of Kalamazoo where methamphetamine with an approximate street value of $2500 was seized.

Two of the suspects in that case had ties to a house in the 7000 block of Douglas Avenue. Investigators went to the house and could smell a strong odor of ammonia coming from a vehicle that was parked in the driveway. The owner gave officers consent to search the vehicle and a large anhydrous ammonia meth lab was found in the trunk. Based on the evidence found in the vehicle, investigators obtained a search warrant for the residence. Upon execution of the search warrant, investigators found finished methamphetamine packaged for individual sales, a large amount of U.S. currency believed to be the proceeds from meth sales, an assault rifle, multiple other rifles and shotguns, and two handguns. One of the handguns had a filed-off serial number.

Investigators also searched the attached garage and located two active one-pot labs and other meth making components. The two suspects both live at the residence and are brothers ages 49 and 42. Charges will be sought for them for Possession with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine, Operating and Maintaining a Meth Lab, and Felony Firearm. Anyone with information regarding illegal drugs or firearms activity is urged to contact KVET at 269-337-8880, or report an anonymous tip to Silent Observer at 269-343-2100 or www.kalamazoosilentobserver.com
