Man threatens to shoot officers

On November 27, 2012, at approximately 2:00 pm, Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer Heath Shoemaker pulled into the parking area at Public Safety Station number 4/5 in the 600 block of North Park. The officer noticed a civilian vehicle parked in an area normally reserved for police cars.  The lone occupant of the car, a 31 year old Kalamazoo man, appeared to be patiently waiting for an officer as he sat behind the wheel of his car.

PSO Shoemaker got out of his patrol car and was preparing to provide assistance to the man.  Surprisingly, the driver jumped out of the vehicle, quickly advanced toward the officer, and started yelling threatening statements.  The man yelled that had a gun and that he intended to kill police officers.  PSO Shoemaker was able to quickly detain the man in question.

The man was ultimately arrested for assault on a police officer, operating while intoxicated, and driving on a suspended license.  He was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail.  No weapon was located.
