My Town: Man arrested for Kalamazoo jewelry store robbery | Crime
KALAMAZOO, Mich.—A Detroit area man will face charges for a Kalamazoo jewelry store robbery that led to a police chase down Interstate 94.
Public safety officers were called to Nord Jewelers on West Michigan Avenue just before 2 p.m. Monday after the man swiped a Rolex watch from the store. A store employee says the man acted like a customer and asked to see the watch; once it was out of the display case, the man snatched up the Rolex and ran out of the business. The store employee ran after the suspect, who claimed to have a gun. The worker wrote down the description and plate number of the vehicle the man drove off in and contacted police, who spotted it on I-94 east. Detective Cory Ghiringhelli followed the vehicle into Battle Creek where Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s deputies and Battle Creek Police took over, stopping the suspect on Beckley Avenue.
Authorities found the stolen watch on the 24-year-old man. He’s expected to be formally charged with armed robbery Wednesday.
