Kalamazoo Drop-In Child Care Center Receives $1,000 OMNI “Gives Back” Grant

OMNI Community Credit Union has awarded the Kalamazoo Drop-In Child Care Center (KDCCC) with a $1,000 OMNI “Gives Back” Grant to help them continue to provide free part-time child care, parental education and support to low income families in Kalamazoo.  By providing this service, parents are able to attend classes, search for housing and obtain employment while knowing their child/children are in a safe, developmentally appropriate and well-supervised environment.

“This is a great opportunity to help low-income families provide a better life for their children.  When a parent knows they have a place they can take their child for proper child-care, they are able to better focus their efforts of finishing school or finding employment.  This is a wonderful organization and we are proud to support them,” said Ted Parsons, OMNI CEO.

Kathy McNinch, Executive Director of KDCCC said “We are so pleased to receive this grant from Omni Credit Union.

Degage expands hours to combat cold weather

Degage expands hours to combat cold weather

To meet the needs of our city’s homeless population, Dégagé Ministries has expanded their hours. Identifying a gap in the community, local social service and municipal agencies have struggled to know where to direct our city’s homeless population during the afternoon hours so they can “warm up” and get off the street. Dégagé was grateful to answer the call and recently expanded its Dining Room services by 5 ½ hours each afternoon. It is now open seven days a week from 7:00 am-8:00 pm. Men and women staying in local missions must leave their facilities by 7:00 am and often have no place to go during these hours.

Charity drive assists local food pantry

JX Peterbilt – Grand Rapids presented the Family Network of Wyoming in Wyoming, Mich. a donation of $500 toward the agency’s efforts to help those in need.

“Our Associates are generous and support many local charities year-round and we’re pleased this holiday season they continued to give,” said Larry Raspor, General Manager of JX Peterbilt – Grand Rapids. “Additionally, the generosity of our parent company, JX Enterprises, was very impressive, donating a total of $7,500 to food pantries that serve communities in each of the company’s 15 locations throughout the Great Lakes Region. In monetary contributions alone, the company and its dealerships have donated more than $12,000 to more than a dozen organizations and relief efforts this year.”
