Would you like gardens that are the envy of the neighborhood?  Let us help you at the 8th annual Plant Sale on Friday, May 8, from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. and on Saturday, May 9, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  This sale, sponsored by Kalamazoo Master Gardeners, will be inside the Walnut Room in Kalamazoo County’s Health & Community Services (HCS) building located at 3299 Gull Road (in the Nazareth complex), Kalamazoo.

The Taste of Portage celebrates the history, unique restaurants, brew pubs, and traditions that make the City of Portage an amazing place to live, work, and enjoy. Taste of Portage encourages the citizens and community to love where they live. In addition to all the local food and entertainment at the event, we are pleased to announce our headlining bands, Big Al’s Basement Band and The Spazmatics. This fundraising event supports the Portage Athletic Foundation and takes place July 18, 2015 from noon to 10 pm at Overlander Band Shell. Entry to the event is free from noon until 4 pm. From 4 pm to 7 pm, a $5 cover fee will be charged. From 7 pm to 10 pm, a $10 cover fee will be charged upon entry to the event.

Rock to Mineral enthusiasts can explore & discover this year’s show themed “A World of Agates”, which adds an extra dimension of interest. Activities include polishing a Petoskey stone, learning about silver smithing, crack open a geode, pan for gold and so much more.

"It's in the Bag" purse sale & raffle

On April 18, 2015, the Friends of the Portage Senior Center will host the first "It’s in the Bag" purse sale and raffle. Gently used purses and tote bags, both name brands and knockoffs, will be available for purchase at bargain prices. The sale will run from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and is open to the public.

"Folks have donated more than 700 bags of all shapes and sizes," said Senior Center Manager, Kim Phillips. A variety of new name brand bags, donated by generous sponsors, will be raffled off during the event. Raffle tickets are available for sale at the Portage Senior Center (PSC). Proceeds from the raffle and the purse sale will support operations at the PSC.

"Taste of Kalamazoo" to celebrate 30th Anniversary this year

Townsquare Media announced today that it has acquired “The Taste of Kalamazoo” from Events, Inc. and Wayne Deering. Taste of Kalamazoo is one of the downtown areas’ most successful events each year.

2015 will mark the 30th Anniversary of the “Taste of Kalamazoo.” The event will take place at the Arcadia Creek Festival Place on July 23 – 25. Townsquare is intent on keeping this popular event downtown with the most delicious food from a wide variety of vendors along with great entertainment.

Last year Townsquare Media along with Arc Community Advocates, produced the annual Kalamazoo Ribfest, a partnership that was the most successful Ribfest since it began. This year they are hoping it will grow even more.

Enthusiasts of postcards and antique bottles or glass are invited to the Kalamazoo County Expo Center for two interesting shows this Saturday.

The Southwest Michigan Post Card Club Show & Sale takes place at Expo North 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. There will be a number of  tables with more than a million postcards from 1890 to present.

The Antique Bottle & Glass Show takes place 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. in Room A, showcasing all types of glass from dairy bottles to medicine and flasks, with the chance for free appraisals.

The Kalamazoo County Expo Center is located at 2900 Lake Street in Kalamazoo.

Dog Walk Promises Howlin’ Good Time Returns

More than 3,000 dog lovers and precious pooches will gather for the 31st annual Dog Walk & K-9 Festival scheduled for Saturday, May 2, at Vicksburg’s Prairie View Park.

The popular event, sponsored by the Kalamazoo Humane Society, features dock jumping, disc competitions, an obstacle course and much more, along with children’s activities, pet adoptions and pet microchipping. It is KHS’s biggest fundraiser of the year, aiming to raise $75,000 in vital support for its programs.

"Whether you’re a dog owner, dog lover or just looking for a fun family event, the Dog Walk is the place to be," said Aaron Winters, executive director of KHS.

Food, music and pet-product vendors will be on hand as well, Winters added.
