Kalamazoo Businesses Rewarded for Community Service

Celebration! Cinema likes to reward other businesses for good service. So, for the second year, they asked their employees to nominate businesses that have inspired them with their community service in Grand Rapids, Lansing, Muskegon, Benton Harbor, Portage, and Mt. Pleasant. They received more than 300 business names. Finally, they asked the public to decide on the final winners.

More than a quarter million dollars in recognition and cash is going to the recipients of the 2013 Celebrated Service Award.

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University is again partnering to present a timely talk on international issues in conjunction with the 2013 Great Decisions Discussion Series organized by the World Affairs Council of Western Michigan.

The discussion series is one of the largest foreign policy lecture programs in the nation and the state's only lecture series devoted to American foreign policy issues.

Locally, WMU will be offering a live lecture by National Public Radio correspondent Dina Temple-Raston at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4, in the Fetzer Center's Putney Auditorium.

Your Vote Needed To Decide Business Service Award

Celebration! Cinema wants to reward other businesses for good service. So, they're asking the people they serve for their input.

This is the second time Celebration will recognize local business that inspire the community with their service. The Celebrated Service Award launched last year. More than 300 businesses are nominated that chosen by Celebration! Cinema employees who have felt inspired by them. The public gets to decide on the final winner.

Public voting runs through Thursday, January 31. The finalists in six Celebration! Cinema markets are available online, and the winners will be revealed on Friday, Feb 1. More than a quarter million dollars in recognition and cash go to the recipients of the 2013 Celebrated Service Award.

Annual Downtown Kalamazoo Chili Cook-off on Saturday

Downtown Kalamazoo will be booming Saturday, January 19 from 11:30am to 1:30pm for this FREE Annual Chili Cook-off sampling event. There will be over 40 locations throughout downtown Kalamazoo for attendees to use a Chili Passport to sample chili at offices, restaurants & retailers. Voting opportunities will occur at various locations throughout downtown Kalamazoo to select your First & Second place winners in each category, along with the people’s choice winner.
