Air Zoo to offer motor coach trip to Detroit auto show

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Those looking to visit the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit need look no further!  The Air Zoo is offering a fully escorted trip to the NAIAS on Jan. 17. 

The organized trip will feature transportation by deluxe motor coach. The trip costs $55 per person and includes transportation and a ticket to the NAIAS at the Cobo Center in Detroit.  The motor coach will depart from the Air Zoo at 7:30 a.m. and return around 6 p.m.

Accident - 1700 E. Kilgore

Kalamazoo, MI: On January 4th 2012, at 10:46 p.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to the 2000 block of Kilgore Road on a report of a personal injury accident.  The initial caller reported that one of the drivers was pinned in their vehicle.  On scene officers found a female trapped in her Volkswagen Jetta.  Using the Jaws of Life, officers were able to extricate the female from of her vehicle and she was transported to Bronson hospital with multiple broken bones and facial injuries. 

Preliminary investigation has determined that the female was eastbound on Kilgore Road, crossing over I-94, when she crossed the center lane at a high rate of speed and struck a westbound truck.  The driver of the truck, a 22-year-old Kalamazoo resident suffered minor injuries but refused medical attention at the scene.

Officers from the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team, acting on complaints of drug dealing and illegal gambling in the 800 block of Ampersee, opened up an investigation into the claims. During the investigation Officers identified a residence in the 800 block of Ampersee. On January 4, 2012 Officers from the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team and Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety’s Swat Team, executed a search warrant at the residence. During the raid, 13 subjects were found inside the residence participating in illegal gambling. A quantity of pre-packaged marijuana, crack cocaine, electronic scales, packaging equipment, gambling equipment, and illegal proceeds were seized.

Flint, Mich. - As part of McLaren Health Plan’s ongoing growth and expansion, the health plan Medicaid service area will include Kalamazoo County on Jan. 1, 2012.

Kalamazoo County residents will now have the opportunity to enroll in an award-winning Medicaid plan that offers many free benefits, including no copayments on office visits, prescriptions, hospital and ER visits, eye exams and glasses, and podiatry services.

Additionally, McLaren Health Plan Medicaid members can enroll in McLaren Moms, a support program for pregnant members, and have access to a host of other free programs.

“We invite Kalamazoo County residents to experience the care and personal attention we give to each of our members,” said Kathy Kendall, President and CEO of McLaren Health Plan.

Female Extricated in Two Car Accident - 2000 E. Kilgore

Kalamazoo Drop-In Child Care Center Receives $1,000 OMNI “Gives Back” Grant

OMNI Community Credit Union has awarded the Kalamazoo Drop-In Child Care Center (KDCCC) with a $1,000 OMNI “Gives Back” Grant to help them continue to provide free part-time child care, parental education and support to low income families in Kalamazoo.  By providing this service, parents are able to attend classes, search for housing and obtain employment while knowing their child/children are in a safe, developmentally appropriate and well-supervised environment.

“This is a great opportunity to help low-income families provide a better life for their children.  When a parent knows they have a place they can take their child for proper child-care, they are able to better focus their efforts of finishing school or finding employment.  This is a wonderful organization and we are proud to support them,” said Ted Parsons, OMNI CEO.
