Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes completes move

As of Monday, Jan. 16, Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes will be fully operational in the new facility at 901 Portage St. This new facility broke ground in June and will allow Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes to serve more people.

All donations can be dropped off at this facility on the Jackson Street side weekdays between 8 am and 3:30 pm.

The Mission of Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes is to feed hungry people and engage the community in the fight to end hunger.

2012 marks the 28th anniversary of the YWCA Women of Achievement Awards Celebration, which will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at the Air Zoo, 6151 Portage Road. The YWCA invites the community to nominate outstanding women who have made enduring contributions to the social, cultural, family, economic, educational, or political well-being of our community. Deadline for submitting nominations is Friday, February 17, 2012 by 5:00 p.m. Nomination Forms may be downloaded from the YWCA Website at www.ywcakalamazoo.org (Click on the "Events" tab) or picked up at the YWCA, 353 E. Registration open for Gender and Leadership Summit

KALAMAZOO--Registration has opened for the first student Gender and Leadership Summit at Western Michigan University.

The daylong summit for WMU students will be held from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, in the Bernhard Center. Those attending will be able to network with other student leaders as well as learn about their leadership skills and abilities--regardless of whether they consider themselves a beginning or advanced leader.

This event is the first of its kind at WMU to explore leadership specifically in terms of gender. That theme will be illuminated by a keynote speaker, Dr. Adriana Garriga-Lopez, assistant professor of anthropology at Kalamazoo College, as well as through breakout sessions and roundtable and panel discussions presented by community...

Two arrested during meth bust

Officers from the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team, acting on a citizen’s tips of reports of methamphetamine trafficking, contacted a 44 year old female Kalamazoo resident after she was seen leaving a residence in the 100 block of W. Dutton. The female suspect was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, packaged for sale, pseudoephedrine, and key components for methamphetamine manufacturing. This female was arrested on two outstanding felony warrants, one of which was for a previous meth lab investigation, and on two new charges of Manufacturing Methamphetamine and Possession With Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine.
